God's Little Acre.....

My house sits on just under an acre of ground and I have a small space fenced off for a vegetable garden.  So far I'm still able to tend the plants and I'm hopeful I can continue as I love digging in the dirt!

This is the first row of beans.  They are pole beans and we string fencing wire between the end posts for them to climb.  Their name is "Turkey Craw"  and sometimes you can't find the seed in our area so I always try and save my seeds for the coming year.

This shot shows between the rows.  They are a breeze to pick; no stooping over ...just walk down the rows and pick as you go!  It makes it easy for an old lady to pick beans!

This year I'm trying my hand at growing watermelon.  I love to see these melons lying among the vines.  Yum!

And since I am growing watermelon I had to try cantelope.  I also have two pumpkin vines but they are sort of unruly and running everywhere!  I may have to rein them in before it is over with.  Last I looked, the vines were headed for the fence and thinking they might like to run free in the  yard!

Well that is just a bit of what is going on in my world.  The little plants with the small leaves are Morning Glory plants.  They will overtake the whole acre if you are not careful.  I spend most of my time battling these little devils but I never give up.  You will not win this battle!

No wonder you get so many beans, beautiful rows, Glenda, and the melons and cantaloupe look delicious...here they would be bird pecked or the possum would be eating them! Have a wonderful Friday, hope you get to pick some goodies today!

Just gorgeous - I am in awe Glenda! Those little vines you call morning glories I believe are really wood bines. And nasty as you say! Each year they appear somewhere else around here. But we have a lot of acreage, but I don't quit trying either! Happy Harvesting!

You say you are "an old lady" now that really surprises me. I have the vision of a young lady.
Mmmm!! melons, we certain don't have the weather here in Scotland to be growing those.
We did have when we lived in Turkey. We grew melons and Yes! we also struggled keeping the Morning Hlory under control!!!

Your 'little' garden looks pretty massive to me! LOL! I didn't even put one in this year. We have had such a hot, hot, hot, summer so far continuous days of 100+, I am longing for fall. But, it was great to peek at your garden. I have sent you several e-mails,. Have you got them?

AWESOME! Your garden looks fabulous (I miss having a big garden) and looks like you've got a green thumb with the melons too ... good for you! I always liked growing the 'sweet' and little 'Sugar Baby' melons ... perfect for the everyday dinner table ... not too big! Thanks for sharing these photos and I know what you mean about the morning glories ... Good Grief! Never realized just how invasive they were until I had them coming up in the yard, between the cracks in the driveway ... just EVERYWHERE!! LOL! Have a FABULOUS day/weekend my friend!

Wow! What bounty! Your melons look luscious! We don't really get enough warm sun here on the coast for melons, but pumpkins are great. I know what you mean about the vines running all over. Morning glories grow wild here, too, and I've managed to keep them out of the garden, but just beyond the fence they're blooming and twining all over. Thanks for sharing these pics, Glenda. I love seeing your outdoor living space!
