Learning About Mixed Media......

I have only ever done a few projects using Mixed Media Techniques and I'm still trying to figure out when I'm supposed to stop.  There is a point where you need to say enough and then leave it alone.  I haven't figured that part out yet.

Here is a picture of my piece about mid way through...I'm just getting ready to paint everything white with Gesso and then start adding color. I almost like it better than the finished piece.

Here it is after I have colored it to death!

I think I went about two steps too far! Oh and by the way...the nobby kneed little girl is me about 120 years ago.  I think I was 3 years old in this picture.  I love this type of project and will keep watching videos trying to figure out where it is that I fit. I just know there is a place for me somewhere in this!

What an awesome project, Glenda! I like it both ways! I, too, have not done too many mixed media projects and have then opposite problem-I do not want to cover up my layers-what is the point of all the work if you are going to just cover it up?? LOL! Don't know if I have a place in mexed media, but it sure looks like you do!

It is hard...both are beautiful ...mixed media sometimes seems like double work (-: but guess its what you like and how much time you have to give to it ...I really like them both!

I think it looks amazing! It's the kind of thing I'd never dare to attempt. I think I lean a little too far in the other direction--after I glue on the third embellishment, I start to panic that I've gone way overboard and drop the whole project!

You were a darling little girl, Glenda, and you've created a beautiful piece to display the sweet photo. I had to laugh out loud at your "120 years ago" statement. It feels that way sometimes, doesn't it? I like your project both before and after, but I honestly think the "after" is my favorite. You're very good at mixed media!

Hi Glenda,

What an adorable photo of you! Now, I don't think you went overboard on the coloring. It looks really sweet. When I first started doing the She Art canvases I really did go overboard adding texture and color. Holy moly - I look at some of those canvases and really would love to paint over them. Perhaps I will!!!

Peace,
Kay

This turned out fabulous! And I love the picture of you!
In all honesty, you need to realize that you are already a mixed media artist. Mixed media is not something new!! Every time you combine paper, ink, some type of embellishment, it is MIXED media!
I've seen CAS, OMGwheredoIfocus, vintage, shabby, grunge, you name it mixed media projects. Just create in your style and you'll find your comfort zone!!

Fabulous creation and what fun you used a picture of yourself. I did one of my Dad when he was in his
20's in an old time baseball get up. I love it and keep it in my craft room. Love the vintage stuff.

I know what you mean by not knowing when to stop. You see other creations which look so perfect but when we try the same thing...well, we aren't satisfied. I like both before and after of your project. Your flowers are gorgeous to say the least. So, I think it all adds up to preference!
