Bella

Well I have taken a leap of faith and here is the new addition to my little band.  This is Bella...10 week old and 2 1/2 lbs.  She is just full of herself and very hard to get a picture.  Of course Maggie is having trouble dealing with the whole thing and continues to snarl and growl.  Any suggestions would be very welcome!  I am hoping that things will improve as the days go by but right now Maggie hates her!

I want to wish you all a very Happy Easter!  My family is coming for lunch and I'm looking forward to spending time with them!

Well that's it for me this morning.  We will talk soon!

She is beautiful, Glenda, and Maggie will calm down or maybe not. My Fluffy got locked in the garage overnight Friday night and Daisy(her sister) is still growling every time she passes! Have a wonderful Easter, it looks like it might rain here!

She is such a cutie! I wish I had advice for you, but I'm way too soft on my animals. I've never owned a well-behaved dog!!
Happy Easter. Enjoy the day with your family.

I've missed dropping by...getting life back in order and will be dropping by more often!!

Bella is adorable and so tiny! Pay equal attention to both, Mum, that will help. :)

I'm so happy for you! She's just darling! Love that little purple bow. Wally was patient to a point with LuLu when we first got her. She wanted to cuddle with him, but he didn't want her touching him when he was trying to sleep. He scared me a couple of times with his snarling and snapping at her, but he never touched a hair on her head. It was all for show. I would scold him gently when he did that, and console LuLu, but made sure I gave Wally bunches of extra love. He soon found she was pretty fun to play with. Of course, he was only three years old, himself, and still a puppy at heart. They are the best of friends now. Congratulations on your new family menber. I hope Maggie comes to love her soon.

I bet you just forgot to mention to Maggie that you where getting a playmate for her.

For the first one to two weeks, always watch the interactions between the dogs. Do not leave them alone together until you are sure they are comfortable with each other. Remember your first dog has established habits, so take both on walks, feed meals, and play with them at the usual times. This will help your first dog see that the new one is not a disruption to his normal day.

It is important during this interim period to watch the dogs in circumstances that might antagonize one or both. Anything that may excite the dogs could set them off - family members returning home, walks, visitors, meals, and play.

While it is great if the dogs become fond of one another, don't forget to spend time with each of them, apart from the other. You want their primary bond to be with you, not the other dog, so get in some quality one-on-one time.

A few don'ts:
DON'T introduce a puppy to a grown dog by holding him in your arms. The puppy could feel restrained and vulnerable. The best way is to let the puppy greet the dog on his terms, on the ground. You can help by providing a space between your feet for the puppy to run to if he feels it is all a little too much to handle.
DON'T let a grown dog walk over, knock down, or bully the puppy.
DON'T confine dogs together in a crate, automobile, or small room until they are fully at ease with each other.
DON'T allow one dog to bully the other into giving up his meal. Place their bowls far enough away from each other to help control this behavior. Train each dog to eat only from his own bowl. If one dog finishes before the other, you must train him to leave the other dog's meal alone.
DON'T EVER let a fight between two dogs go on. "Let them fight it out. It's the only way they'll learn to get along." WRONG! Following this advice will simply lead to a very bad relationship down the line. You will need to step in and break up the dogs whether from a fight or if one dog is aggressively bullying the other. It is always best to stop a battle so the dogs do not think belligerent behavior is okay.

Bella is adorable. I hope Maggie takes to her soon. Lots of good advice above. I'm not sure if this will work, but I have heard that it helps, if you haven't already, bathe and shampoo Bella - apparently that removes the smell of others she has been in contact with, including her mother, which may be the root of Maggie's aversion.
