WOYWW 125

What a freaking mess!  I have been trying to straighten my ribbon so I can fit it all in one drawer and I have to tell you,  it is a bigger job than I expected!  This is only a small portion of my ribbon, I'm ashamed to say and I have been trying to sort through the mess and tie up loose ends.  I have worked on this for a couple of days and I'm getting close to giving up!  It is overwhelming!!  The reason I have so much is I inherited my Mom's ribbon from all her craft projects and I received a bunch from an online store I used to purchase from often.  That was back when I was working.  She would send a piece of ribbon with each purchase and they came in a little plastic bag all nice and neat.  Well those plastic bags just do not store well for me.  They slip and slide and so you never know what you have.  If anyone has any suggestions for storing ribbon, please let me know!  I'm at my wits end with this mess!

Well that is what is on my workdesk this morning!  Please forgive the mess!  It has begun to slid off into the floor and I have had to go crawling after several little spools.  This old lady is way to old to be down on her hands and knees chasing spools of ribbon!

Have a wonderful day!  And remember to breathe!  In and Out....that's it!  It can be a very calming thing and Lord knows I need to be calm today!

I'm hoping this was a scheduled post, as it is 11:25PM here and I'd see why you are losing it. Much too late to think about a ribbon mess. I sorted mine my color, wanted to use a dowel to hang them, but with 2 cats who play not the solution, so they are in drawers standing so I can see the texture and color. Have fun, good luck and you better keep Breathing..

I used dowels too... but ended up with too much ribbon even for that. I now have a CD storage unit with little 10"x6" drawers about 6" deep, and I colour-code all my ribbons into the little drawers. I have seen a box with little holes in, especially for ribbon storage - and a friend once made some out of show boxes. Basically, you poke the end of the ribbon through a hole in the box, and pull it out when needed - of course, the drawback is that you can't see how much of that ribbon you have left.

Well, I think your desk looks beautiful... all that ribbon atop of it looks gorgeous ! *lol*

Have a wonderful WOYWW!

LOL! I can picture you crawling around on the floor after ribbon spools.. it made me laugh out loud! Mine are in a box, all jumbled up, so the thought of sorting them doesn't even come into the picture, nor can I help you :((

Hi Glenda, I have the perfect solution to your ribbon problem ! Buy an embroidery hoop, quite a large one and hang your ribbons by making a loop and threading the two ends through !Then hang the hoop on a hook !
It works for me and your ribbons dont get creased !! Hope this helps....

By the way Glenda, I only buy lengths of ribbon so that I can them on the hoop but you could cut lengths from the spools to store this way or hang the spools on the hoop/hoops !
good luck !

Ribbons are my endless battle too - I did roll half onto pegs last year and now it's just one bag of ribbon rage again...sigh. Thanks for sharing today! Sarah at 5.

You think you have a problem, ha, not seen anything to match my ribbon mess yet. I tried to sort it out the other week, took all of spools wrapped into hanks about 8 inch long and then did a loose overhand knot. Looks a lot tidier - but then I haven't tried to unravel any since.

Most of my ribbon are in jars, still in their packets or on a dowel, not in camera shot...which is why I always forget where they are!, I still think the dowel idea is a good one, if the ribbons are on a spool that fits it, it's nice to see what you have! Some people like draws though, but tried that and made an even bigger muddle!!

I love ribbon but it can be such a pain to store. I keep my spools on what looks like recycled kitchen towel holders, but they were made for me by my husband. Basically they have a round, flat base, with a length of dowling sticking up from the centre that I put the spools over. Of course, I've also got a drawer full of odds and ends too though!

Love all the ribbon, especially the thought of you chasing ribbon. Mine is in 2 drawers, on the wall on two ribbon spaces and in a basket. Pieces go nice in a drawer, you can put your favorites on a upright dowel, if you don't have wall space, like an upright paper towel holder. I wish you luck with your ribbon and hope you have a wonderful day.

All fit in 1 drawer?? Oh honey, you don't know from ribbon. I put my rolls into plastic boxes sorted by type (satin, organdy, metallic, wired, etc). The boxes sit on shelves and can be slid out to view the contents. This sound organized, but it regularly gets out of control and needs straightening often.

Ohhhh, I love ribbons too but they are a pain to store. I've seen them in jars, stored by colours but who has room for that? I keep mine in clear plastic shoe storage boxes so I can see which bolt of ribbon is where. That works for me but probably not for everyone. Good luck! Thanks for the visit and have a great week!

Ah Glenda, you're leaning on an open door - ribbon must be the hardest storage., I have some on reels in drawers, some in long lengths on book rings hanging on the back of the door, and 'pieces' in a large and tangled blob in a huge glass jar. I've blogged about it several times. I have no answer. But.....am kinda glad not to be alone!

Here's a post I did a while back on how I organized my ribbons. It's been working well for me for nearly two years now.

Ribbon and punches....the hardest things for me to store and organize. If you come up with a good solution I would love to know what it is!

I’ve got a couple of paper towel holders on my peg board that I put some of my ribbons on – unfortunately I’ve got some spools with very small holes in the centre and the dowel on the towel holder won’t go through them, so they are in a box. Small scraps are loose in a drawer. I don’t have that much ribbon compared with some of you as I don’t use it all the time but it’s nice to have for occasional projects. Happy WOYWW, Shoshi #84

When you find something that works, will you let me know? At the moment I have some in plastic bags sorted by colour hanging from a ring, some on embroidery thread cards all neat in three boxes... spools on a dowel pole... two boxes with a lot chucked in willy nilly... maybe if I just chose one solution it would help!!

My word, but you have a lot of ribbon. Looks like heaven to me, I am a ribbon junkie! LOL at the image of you crawling on the floor, if I had to do that I would have to crawl to the nearest wall to help myself up again.
My wonderful DH made me a ribbon storage that works like a charm. It is basically a wooden frame with dowels spced at intervals of about 6 inches. The spools then just slide on and it looks pretty cool too!
Happy ribbon sorting (it always looks worse just before it is sorted)

I love the idea of putting all the ribbons on to dowel rods, but I worry that they will get very dusty like everything else. Mine are in boxes and jars but I do forget what I have got.

I haver mine hanging on dowel rods, it seems to work well for me.

My ribbon is completely out of hand again, too. I have one drawer all neat and tidy, sorted by color, and a basketful of ribbons rolled up and bagged up, sorted by type. However, more ribbon has been added and I haven't dealt with it yet. I like to keep my ribbon spools loose so I can carry them to my stamp table. I really need to get a grip on my ribbon and paper obsession.
