I Will Never Forget.......

Today marks the 10 year anniversary of 911 and this morning as I sit here in my craft room sipping my coffee and deciding what I want to do today, I remember...  My husband was scheduled for knee replacement surgery that day and we arose very early to make the drive to Knoxville.  As the morning progressed I was sent to the waiting room for a lengthy wait while my husband had his surgery.  I was beginning to get sleepy and so I got a fresh cup of coffee and settled in front of the TV sitting in the corner of the waiting room.  I remember thinking, who did this anchor woman's hair this morning...Katie someone should tell you that doesn't suite you..then I noticed the look on her face and what was actually being said and I grabbed for the remote to turn up the sound.  Images of the planes striking the buildings will be embedded in my mind for the rest of my life!  People began gathering around me, some crying, some shouting, but I just sat there in disbelief of what I was witnessing!  As the day wore on and in the days that followed, as my husband recovered, I sat glued to the TV.  I watched day and night as there was very little to do for him for the first few days.  September 11, 2001 was on a Tuesday and on Thursday, my husband came around from the huge amounts of pain medications and asked what had happened.  As I told the story, he watched in horror the images still being shown on the TV.  Soon he asked me to turn it off, he just couldn't watch anymore.  But while he slept, I still watched.  I sat in that hospital for 4 days and watched history being made.

My grandson, soon to be 14, was too little and will not be able to remember any of the story, but I can tell him my story about where I was and what I was doing when I got the news.  My own grandmother was born in 1900 and used to tell me wonderful stories about the things she had seen over the years, the first electric light in her town, the first car, the first telephone, the first picture show......all such accomplishments...
My story is one of horror and death and heros and determination, new beginnings and also new life.  I will NEVER forget!

ah Magpie a time for us all to remember those dear ones from many nations (yes, some from Australia) who lost their lives that day all because of the folly of a few who thought that they knew better. Snared by the deceits of a man who hated the freedom we have in our lands. it is God-blessed freedom and long may we have it!
May God comfort all those who suffered loss on that day and each day since in this conflict - especially soldiers and heir families still fighting today, may God keep them all safe in the hollow of His hand, Shaz in oz.x

I'll never forget it either. I was teaching 6th grade, and I grabbed a TV from the AV room and just let them watch. My grandparents told the story of where they were when WWII broke out, my dad told the story of where he was when JFK was shot, and I knew we'd all be telling the story of where we were on 9/11. What I can't believe is that it's been 10 years. It still feels like it happened last week.

Glenda, Thanks for sharing your story. Our country suffered so much that day, as did our father's before us with the horrors from the past. As always, our country stood strong and it is important to remember that day and what was lost.

I also remember and much like you sat glued in horror at what was happening to our country. I can only hope that our country will unite in our faith in God and realize He is in control. Bless you!

It's one of those tragic events you'll never forget where you were and what you were doing at the time. I was getting ready for work. I never have the TV on in the morning, but my son called and told me to watch. I, too, was horrified and stunned with disbelief. I called to say I'd be late. All those innocent lives so senselessly lost. I'm so sorry about it all.

Thank you for sharing your story Glenda.
So very many stories ended on that dreadful day. So many hopes and dreams dashed, so many loved ones left to mourn as a consequence of cruel, evil acts. Perhaps we should thank God that we just cannot fathom the mind set behind those acts. "Blessed are those who mourn" (that has just hit me this moment like never before!) Praise God.
